Metal Laser Sintering 3D Printing
Metal Laser Sintering is a process very similar to Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) plastic printing where a very thin layer of powdered metal is spread over a work area in a controlled atmosphere build tank and 2D geometry is sintered. A new layer is deposited and the next layer is sintered. The process repeats itself may times resulting in a three dimensional sintered metal object.
MLS unlocks geometry potential that is otherwise unable to be created from traditional machining technologies or would be cost prohibitive. Material options range from various types of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, cobalt alloys and ceramic. MLS can be a fantastic option for prototyping or low volume production.
By utilizing our strong design resources, high speed 5-axis milling machines and other high-end tooling technologies, we have the capability to produce fast tooling options for prototyping and low volume production runs.
The RapidMIM technology allows us to produce metal injection molded prototypes very quickly with no tooling investment. Low volumes (around 10 parts) can typically be supplied in about a week. This technology allows a customer to test and validate designs using the MIM material we will supply in production. Since there is no tooling investment, designs can be easily changed and new parts created, so design iterations can be evaluated quickly and economically. Once the design is frozen, the design can be released to tool build with confidence.
